Volunteers
The Charity recognises the value of volunteers in contributing to the opportunities the Homes can offer, and aims to use volunteers to the best mutual advantage. In order to ensure a quality service, we like to take time during both the selection and induction of volunteers, together with ongoing support for, and recognition of, the volunteer.
In 2006 we were fortunate to be able to reward a longstanding volunteer with a ‘Volunteer of the Year Award’ which resulted from a national initiative to recognise the value of volunteering to organisations such as ours.
Anyone expressing an interest in Volunteering will be invited to visit the service and take the opportunity to meet both staff and residents and tenants. They will be able to meet with the Volunteer coordinator to find out more about what the job entails, and to discuss how best to use the skills or abilities that are being offered. An application process is then carried out which includes References and Criminal Records Bureau checks. Once successfully appointed, the volunteer will then be offered an induction which includes working through the ‘Volunteer Agreement’
We currently have volunteers who drive, an enormous help when getting our residents and tenants to a variety of activities in the area , as well as those how share their craft and woodworking and cooking skills, as well as support with numeracy and literacy. Befriending is very much needed by a number of people, and help on the computer is often asked for.
We are always interested in offering new opportunities and something you can do may be of real interest to us.
If you would like to become a volunteer complete the relevant part of the printable form and send it to the address on the form.
