POUND FARM

 POUND FARM

FEEDBACK FROM THE CQC

The Care Quality Commission carried out an inspection at Pound Farm on the 25th February 2016. We scored ‘Good’ in all key areas

THE ACCOMMODATION

Pound Farm is in the village of Gorsley on the Herefordshire and Gloucestershire border. Gorsley is on a convenient bus route and has a local shop/post office, pub and two very active churches. Pound Farm is home to 15 adults with mild to moderate learning disabilities. Accommodation is provided in four flats with a communal recreation space and gardens. One of our flats at Pound Farm is a designated ‘move on transition’ flat. This provides an opportunity for individuals who are able, and expressed the wish, to live more independently within the community. Here they can focus on the specific skills they’ll need for this.

RESIDENT OPPORTUNITIES

Everyone who lives at Pound Farm is encouraged to contribute to the day-to-day running of their flat. Life skills are important feature of each person’s routine and can include doing laundry and cooking. We keep a small number of animals and maintain a kitchen garden on land attached to Pound Farm. Individuals who are interested in these land-based activities are supported to get involved wherever possible. At Pound Farm we have a small log cabin which is used both as a classroom and a social space. Weekly social events and activities are held here including film nights and discos. We offer a variety of other activities on offer both on and away from the Farm, tailored to individual interests by our enthusiastic staff members and volunteers.

PLANS FOR INDIVIDUALS

  • Each resident has an agreed personal plan, which sets out how they want to spend their time, including accessing community and leisure facilities, and work and volunteering.
  • Keyworkers support individuals to keep in touch with friends and family, maintain a healthy lifestyle and plan their daily life and future.
  • Regular ‘flat meetings’ ensure that everyone’s opinion and views are taken in to account about the running of each flat.

THE ACCOMMODATION

Keeper’s Cottage is just a few miles outside Ledbury in rural Herefordshire and residents have access to all the amenities the town offers including a gym and supermarkets. It is home to eight adults with mild to moderate learning disabilities.

RESIDENT OPPORTUNITIES

Everyone who lives at Keepers Cottage is encouraged to contribute to the day-to-day running of their home. This includes cooking meals and helping to keep the house tidy. We support individuals to get involved with their local community through training, education, volunteering and work experience. This often contributes to them finding part-time employment. Residents have the opportunity to keep in touch with family and friends via the Internet, and can participate in a variety of social and leisure activities. Keeper’s Cottage has a vegetable garden and some animals including chickens, which provide opportunities for people who enjoy country living to get involved in their care.

PERSONAL PLANS

  • Individuals have a personal plan and a keyworker to help develop independence skills, maintain a healthy lifestyle and to plan their daily life. A flexible team of staff respond to changing needs, and work to ensure individuals have fulfilling lifestyles.
  • There are regular residents’ meetings which include everyone in decisions about what goes on at Keeper’s Cottage. Views and opinions are listened to.
